I don’t know who needs to hear this, but saying “it’s not on the roadmap” isn’t stakeholder communication—it’s an invitation to a follow-up meeting no one wants.
PMs spend so much time thinking through trade-offs, user needs, and priorities… and then fumble the moment they have to explain those choices. It’s not a lack of skill—it’s usually fatigue. Or time pressure. Or the dread of having to write yet another internal update that will be skimmed and misunderstood.
That’s exactly why I built Product Briefs.
The real work is invisible
When people say Product Management is a communication job, they’re not wrong—but they often miss the nuance. It’s not just talking. It’s translating complexity without dumbing things down. It’s making decisions clear without over-defending them. It’s writing updates that actually get read, not archived with “cool, thanks” reactions.
And weirdly, no one teaches you how to do that.
Most PM resources cover prioritisation frameworks, discovery tactics, strategy… but when it comes to internal communication? Crickets. Or worse, generic advice like “be concise.” Thanks.
So what is Product Briefs?
Product Briefs is a growing set of writing tools and templates for PMs who want to communicate more clearly—with their team, their leadership, and themselves.
- Templates for product one-pagers, launch briefs, roadmap updates, and decision memos
- Writing guides for tricky moments—like saying no without friction or explaining scope cuts without setting off alarms
- A phrasebook for when you know what you mean, but not how to say it
- And short frameworks (like the “So What?” test) to tighten up your thinking before you even hit send
It’s not about making things pretty. It’s about helping smart PMs sound as thoughtful as they actually are.
Why now?
Because teams are more async than ever. Attention is expensive. PMs are still being asked to “write a quick update” like it’s a five-minute task, when it’s actually a muscle most people haven’t built.
I made Product Briefs because I needed it years ago. And because I still need it now.
If you’re spending too long writing updates that don’t quite land—or if you’re tired of being misunderstood by people who skim—this might help.
You can check it out here, or join the newsletter if you’d rather get one template or writing tactic when I release it.
No fluff. No lectures. Just tools to help you write like a PM who knows what they’re doing. Because you probably are.
